Hold Me
Writing “Hold Me.”
Well, this is the first single of my 2021 challenge. Honestly, it isn’t what I was expecting. I was planning to release an entirely different song, but then “Hold Me” came along and I had to put it out as soon as I could.
I started writing it one evening, late in December of last year. I’ve been doing a 100 day songwriting/composing challenge, but this song wasn’t part of that. I was feeling particularly discouraged and alone that night, and the tune came to me. I hurried upstairs and recorded the melody. Then I started to add a few tracks to it—guitar, synth sounds.
It took several more weeks to finish the recording process, especially for the interlude, but it finally became a song that I truly love.
“Hold Me” is a deeply personal song. It’s about the hard things that have become our reality, and it’s a cry for help too.
I’ve written two letters about creating “Hold Me” on my blog. Here is Part I, and here is Part II.
