Letter No. 12 [podcasts for artists]
Dear Friend,
The past few months have suddenly freed me of most time obligations, and I’ve been trying to soak up as much information as I can about being an artist, starting a business as an entrepreneur, and being financially savvy.
I would be lying if I didn’t tell you I’m overwhelmed and frightened. There’s so much to learn, and what if I miss something important? I feel alone in trying to research and learn. The amount of information is staggering.
But one thing at a time.
I do want to share two podcasts that have been insightful and helpful.
3-Point Perspective (three established illustrators talk about different aspects of illustration, process, tips, business—it’s been amazing and actually comforting to listen to)
2. Entreleadership (part of the Ramsey Network if you’ve heard of Dave Ramsey) Business, finances, and leadership are all included in discussions, and interviews are lively and straight-to-the-point.
I’m still on the lookout for podcasts (or any information) about the nitty-gritty details of starting a small business and taxes for artists. There is also plenty of information on the IRS and Small Business Administration official sites (and on each state’s website). I’ll let you know about more resources for business and finances once I find them.
